For those who enjoy street art and urban discoveries – a new stop on Respublikos Street!
This artwork was created as part of the Erasmus+ street art initiative, a European Union education program. It is dedicated to Gabrielė Petkevičaitė-Bitė – a writer, public figure, and activist who boldly inspired change already at the beginning of the 20th century.
The artist, Ettoja, portrays Gabrielė Petkevičaitė-Bitė as a figure connecting the past and the present. The torch she holds in her hand symbolizes light, knowledge, and action, while the recurring honeycomb motif in the background represents community and women’s solidarity. These symbols serve as a reminder that Bitė did not act alone – she was surrounded by a circle of like-minded women who inspired society to change and create together.
This new piece of street art invites passersby to pause and see the city through the lens of light, ideas, and action.
