The Key Tree and the Pub “At the Ash-Tree”

The ethnographic environment brings visitors back to the city’s history, mythology, culinary heritage and forms new traditions. According to ancient Lithuanian mythology ash and oak trees hit by lightning have been considered holy trees. The ash tree at the hut has been hit by lightning four times and called “The Justice Tree”. Visitors searching for justice may nail a key to the tree as the symbol of justice. The hut “Prie Seklyčios” hosts an art exhibition, you can walk on the ancient stone pavement that still is there and take part in the community festivals or championships of making fish soup in the summer. City residents, their guests, and school students can order a walkabout or a bike ride around Panevėžys with a researcher of mythology and culinary heritage artist Algirdas Jonušis.
